REAL ESTATE TAX ASSESSMENT APPEAL FILING DATES

OPEN FOR ELEVEN TOWNSHIPS

 

Joseph Berrios, Brendan F. Houlihan, and Larry R. Rogers, Jr., Commissioners of  the Cook County Board of Review, have announced the dates for filing assessment appeal complaints by property owners in BLOOM, HANOVER, LAKE , LAMONT, LYONS, NORTH, NORTHFLED, ORLAND, SCHAUMBURG, THORTON, AND WORTH TOWNSHIP. The filing dates for property assessments appeals OPEN ON MONDAY, MAY 17, 2010 AND WILL CLOSE ON MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2010.

Owners of homes, condominiums, townhouses, apartment buildings, and businesses may appeal their assessments to the Board if they feel that their assessment is too high. A lawyer is not required to file an appeal on behalf of a residential property owner.

Evidence which can be particularly helpful to the homeowner seeking an assessment reduction includes any of the following item:

  • a photo of the tax payers property;
  • proof of recent sale prices of homes simular to the home of the tax payer who is appealing;
  • a real estate appraisal, if available;
  • assessed valuations of comparable properties in your neighborhood; and
  • evidence of flood, fire, demolition, or structual damage.

Property owners in the township mentioned above have until 5 p.m. on MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2010 to file assessment appeal complaints.

The Board will then notify the taxpayer of a hearing date when they will be able to argue on behalf of their request for a lower property tax assessment.
