Neighborhood Clean-Up Program RFP Notification
The Chicago Department of Support Services (DFSS) is now requesting proposals from qualified organizations to target hard-to-employ Chicago residents 18 years or older -- with an emphasis on the formely incarcerated -- for job - readiness skills training and related assistance through the Neighborhood Clean-Up Program.
This program is a partnership between DFSS and the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation to provide year - round work and job training opportunities for Chicago residents with significant barriers to employment.
Chicago's Neighborhood Clean- Up Program is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) economic stimulus legislation through the Federal Community Development Block Grant program. The RFP is available at www.cityofchicago.org/fss. Proposals are due by August 24th at 4:30 p.m.
Program activities include alley vegetation control, debris removal in alleys and vacant lots and commercial strip cleaning. participants will become knowledgeable in operating landscaping and other equipment and will aquire safety skills to comply with current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards.
Selected organizations will provide one-on-one support for participants to resolve barriers to longer- term employment. In addition to work experience they must also provide professional development services to the participants , including workshops on topics such as problem solving, communication skills, workplace literacy, financial literacy and job interview training.
The program period will begin October 1, 2009 and go to March 31, 2012. A total of 230 clients will be served.
