Alderman's Message

November 7, 2008

Congratulations 9th Ward Residents!

Together “Yes We Can” and we did.  As I canvassed the ward during early voting at Palmer Park and all the polling places on Election Day, I saw your willingness to stand in long lines as well as your enthusiasm to cast your vote.  Truly, you had the “Yes We Can” spirit.  Complaints were at a minimum, smiles were at maximum.  All in all, you demonstrated a strong desire to help make history.  Thank you for what has proven to be a record turnout of voters for the 9th Ward.

In the past, many were discouraged from voting because they believed their vote would not count, because of your determination to make a change, Barack Obama is the first African American to hold the highest office in the free world as 44th President of the United States of America.

The doors of opportunities are wide open for future generations.  For the first time, our young people can see what many of us know – that if you prepare yourself, anything is possible.  Now, we must continue this same level of engagement for every election.  Change is not just needed on a federal level; it is needed where you live everyday.  To quote Frederick Douglass, “Power concedes nothing without a demand.  It never did and it never will.”

We must understand the changes we hope for will not come overnight.  However, Together “We Can” look forward to the new hope that is before us.  Hold on to the “We Can” spirit that has encouraged you, along with many others, that a change is possible.

Let’s continue to work together to help make the changes that will benefit all of us.

Together “Yes We Can”

Dear 9th Ward Citizens:

It is an absolute must that I take this opportunity to extend my gratitude and appreciation to you for all of your love and support throughout the years. Representing you has been an honor and privilege that I do not take lightly. Your re-electing me to represent your families and businesses for a third term  proves that we are growing stronger as a community and a people. In knowing that you have entrusted me to fight for and stand with you once again, instills a sense of responsibility, strength and courage to work to make the 9th Ward of the City of Chicago one of the best. I cannot stress the importance of communication, planning and action. I look foward to working with and for you towards our mission of "Building a Better Future."

Sincerely,

Anthony A. Beale
