HISTORIC PULLMAN ANNUAL HOUSE TOUR

One weekend each year, Pullman residents open their homes to the public. These 120-year-old landmark homes range from executive mansions to 14- foot wide worker's cottages to multi-unit apartments, all with a charm and uniqueness that is part of the Pullman experience. Tour homes are chosen to present a cross-section of the different types of housing in Pullman and the many ways homeowners blend the past and the present in their homes.

HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF PULLMAN

Built in 1880-94 for Pullman's Pallace Car Company, Pullman was one of America's first planned model industrial towns. Located 14 miles south of downtown Chicago, Pullman was designed by architect Solon S. Beman and landscape architect Nathan F. Barrett who combined the town's unique architecture with parks, landscaped streets and amenities to create an ideal working and living environment . in 1972, the Pullman District was designated as a National Historic Landmark.

PULLMAN TODAY

Nearly 1,000 of the town's original rowhouses and several major buildings and spaces are still intact and in various stages of restoration.
